The LA Confidential strain was bred by DNA Genetics. It is an Indica-dominant hybrid that stems from heirloom genetics. This particular batch was grown by Buds and Roses using Vegamatrix growing techniques.

What Are The Genetics Of The LA Confidential Strain?

DNA Genetics released The LA Confidential strain in the early 2000’s and it quickly gained a reputation as an award-winning variety of cannabis. It has received a number of honors in the competition circuit, including 3rd place for Best Indica at the 2004 Cannabis Cup and 2nd place the following year.

The awards should come as no surprise when you consider the LA Confidential strain’s pedigree. It is the result of crossing an unspecified Afghani landrace with OG LA Affie, a three way hybrid that was developed circa 1978 by a northern California breeder named Johnny Que.

The OG LA Affie strain combines heirloom Lemon Thai, Pakistani landrace, and Colombian Gold genetics to create a distinct aroma of fuel and lemon, similar to that for which OG Kush is often applauded for.

With that said, The OG LA Affie predates the California OG craze by a handful of years, making it one of the first verified cuts of its’ kind.

Today, the OG LA Affie strain can be obtained through Aficionado, a collective of northern California breeders who specialize in crafting boutique-style cannabis. DNA genetics offers feminized seeds of OG LA Affie as well.

How Will The LA Confidential Cannabis Strain Affect Me?

The LA Confidential strain stood out on my recent trip to Buds and Roses Collective in Studio City, CA. LA Con has been a personal favorite of mine for going on 5 years, but I was particularly excited to see that this batch was grown using Vegamatrix cultivation techniques.

The flowers were incredibly well trimmed and were easy on the eyes to say the least. They displayed various shades of green, orange hairs, and bright white trichomes, making for a salivating photo shoot.

The veganic LA Confidential strain carried a bouqet with some remnants of the OG-like aroma expected from its OG LA Affie mother. However, the Afghani landrace genetics seems to have overpowered it somewhat. The terpene profile of this batch may be best described as earthy with spicy, fuel-like undertones.

In short, the effects I experienced with this Buds and Roses’ LA Confidential strain were anxiety reducing, yet thought provoking. Smoking it was ideal when I needed something to help block out unnecessary distractions. I was able to focus on the task at hand in no time, which I attributed to the Lemon Thai in its lineage.
