The Beauty of Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil has been referenced to as nature’s perfect food due to its balanced concentrations of omega fatty acids. The human body needs these omega fatty acids for many functions, from building healthy cells to maintaining brain and nerve function. Our bodies can’t produce them. The only source is food.
What Is Hemp Seed Oil?
Hemp seed oil is nothing new. Throughout history, from continent to continent, hemp seed oil has been used in many cultures around the globe. Commonly used as a bath oil, lamp oil, cooking oil and even used to make paint, oil derived from the hemp seed has been a key ingredient found in a variety of consumer-facing products.
It is a non-greasy substance that is easily absorbed through the pores in your skin. Hemp seed oil is renowned for its ability to help moisturize, nourish, rejuvenate and protect the skin from damaging radiation. It can be added to almost any cosmetic product, and has been. As such, Hemp seed oil is commonly found in different shampoos, conditioners, lip balms, creams, massage oils, soaps and much more.
Hemp Seed Oil Provides Omega Fatty Acids Body Needs
When you press the seeds of the industrial hemp plant, you get oil, which contains lots of nutrition but only trace amounts of THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the cannabinoid responsible for inducing the “high” when consuming cannabis.
“We saw a remarkable reduction in dryness, itching and an overall improvement in symptoms.” – Dr. J. Callaway
Hemp seed oil does not contain pyschoactive properties, but it is rich with omega-6 and omega-3, which are essential fatty acids that our bodies need. These essential fatty acids, or EFAs, help maintain good skin health by keeping cell membranes flexible.
Essential fatty acids also help fight acne, minimize scarring, relieve pain and inflammation, and moisturize dry skin. They also contain anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties which help to keep skin healthy.
Hemp Seed Oil Used To Successfully Treat Eczema
It should come as no surprise that hemp seed oil has had some success in relieving the symptoms of Eczema. In 2005, Dr. J. Callaway, published a study done in Finland in the Journal of Dermatological Treatment documenting the treatment of Eczema using hemp seed oil.
Dr. Callaway found that symptoms of skin dryness and itching significantly improved in patients suffering from Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) after using hemp seed oil for 20 weeks. He stated, “We saw a remarkable reduction in dryness, itching and an overall improvement in symptoms.”
Recent clinical trials have identified hemp seed oil as a functional food, and animal feeding studies demonstrate the long-standing utility of hemp seed as an important food resource.
