OG Kush Renowned For Its Medicinal Qualities

Nearly everyone has heard of the marijuana strain, OG Kush. It’s easily one of the most popular medical marijuana strains grown and sold by dispensaries today. Its popularity has skyrocketed between celebrities, musicians, and medical marijuana patients alike; known specifically for its highly resinous, sticky, and condensed buds that create a full-body warp.

OG Kush is considered to be powerful night-time medication that is good at easing body ailments, chronic migraines, bipolar disorders, anxiety, depression, vomiting, stomach issues, and much more. OG Kush is a strong Hybrid that will leave you in a deep, stoney trance that will have you staring off into space for a couple of prolonged hours.

What The “OG” in OG Kush Stands For

There are a lot of common misconceptions surrounding OG Kush, most notably the confusion where the strain comes from and what specific genetics OG Kush consists of. There are many mysterious legends about OG Kush and what ‘OG’ stands for, however… the truth remains unproven to this day.

One of the most promising accounts explaining the origins of the OG Kush strain is below:

  • Kailua Kid from the Sierra Seed Company believes that in late 93’ a grower in northern California got his hands on the famous Chemdawg strain. He goes on to say (summarized from Seedfinder.eu), that this was shared with a fellow grower from Sunset Beach who claimed he had a male that was the, “secret ingredient,” for breeding. The male was a cross of Lemon Thai and an Old World Paki Kush (possibly where the ‘Kush’ came from), and was an ideal mix for the Chemdawg. The buds became wildly popular in Los Angeles by ’95.

We also came across a number of other (less-likely) theories about the origins of OG Kush and try to explain what ‘OG’ stands for. Some people believe that the ‘OG’ is a memorial to OverGrown.com, which was the world’s largest cannabis grow site until 2006 when they were shut down by the Canadian police for, “illegally distributing seeds.” Others believe that ‘OG’ stands for, “Original Gangster,” which was a strain from the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles. It is thought that this is the plant that produced the OG’s that became so famous in southern California, putting the area on the medical marijuana map.

OG Kush: High In Demand, Low In Supply

“OG Kush is known to be fairly difficult to grow; typically producing low yields if grown incorrectly.”

This also makes it a risky investment for growers, which tends to drive down the supply. Despite that fact, OG Kush is highly sought out for because of its unique taste, scent, look, feel and high, which is definitely not for the feint of heart.

The compact buds are almost neon green in color, with heavy crystallization that will leave your fingers extremely sticky after handling. When grown properly, the strain is a delicacy that deserves a spot on every marijuana enthusiast’s wish list.

    Blue Dream Marijuana Strain
Blue Dream Cannabis Strain Favorited By Many Medical Marijuana Patients
You will find Blue Dream listed as a Sativa strain on most dispensary menus throughout California because of the strong, energetic head-high it is known for. However, digging deeper you will find that the actual Blue Dream genetics can be linked to Blueberry and Super Silver Haze, making it a 50/50 hybrid strain of cannabis. This explains why patients experience a nice full-body high from the Blueberry (Indica), but also a powerful cerebral experience from its Haze (Sativa) genetic counterparts.
