Coconut oil gets its extra punch from lauric acid (C12), which comprises about 50% of the total fatty acids, and has been linked to many health benefits: reducing abdominal obesity, accelerating healing time for wounds, delivering antioxidant properties, lowering lipid components (e.g., cholesterol, triglycerides), and preventing bone loss. Lauric acid is even used as part of a daily detox by some.
