Lawmakers in Rhode Island gave final approval Thursday to a bill that will allow veterans and others suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to participate in the state’s medical marijuana program. The bill, House Bill 7142, received unanimous support in the Senate, and passed the House by a vote of 67 to 1. The lone vote against the bill designed to help patients came from Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Morgan (R-West Warwick). Poll: Rhode Island Voters Support Legal Cannabis For Adult-Use
PROVIDENCE, RI — Continuing the momentum in favor of cannabis policy reform, a recent poll conducted by Public Policy Polling reveals that a slight majority of Rhode Island voters would support cannabis legalization for those 21 and over. Participants were asked if they support or oppose changing state law to follow in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington. Rhode Island lawmakers will hear testimony on numerous marijuana bills this Wednesday, February 27 in the State House. The ‘Marijuana Regulation, Control and Taxation Act’, or House Bill 5274, was introduced earlier this month by State Rep. Edith Ajello (D-Providence) to legalize, regulate and tax cannabis sales for adults 21 and over.
