GooseFire Gallery Presents: “It’s A ME MICRO!”
Paul Stephan is an American glass artist that has been blowing glass for a little over ten years out of his small scale glassblowing studio, ‘Micro’s Workshop’ in Milwaukee, WI. This past weekend, Paul’s work was on display at a free art show hosted by the GooseFire Gallery in Long Beach, CA. The show was appropriately named ‘It’s A ME MICRO” and the theme was an ode to the side-scrolling video games of the 1980’s; specifically Mario Bros. Micro’s work — ‘Micro’ is his artist name — featured layered scenes of the old games …

New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan officially signed a medical marijuana bill into law Tuesday making state the 19th to do so in the country. The bill, HB 573, was approved by the state Senate back in May, bringing the state one step closer to being the last state in New England to approve a medical marijuana law. The new law, which took effect with the governor’s signature, allows patients with cancer and other qualifying conditions to possess up to two ounces of cannabis from nonprofit alternative treatment centers. Matt Simon, a New Hampshire legislative analyst for …

Florida Begins Collecting Signatures For MMJ Bill
John Morgan, the “for the people” guy who’s law firm’s advertisements are seen frequently on Tallahassee TV, is sponsoring a new Florida petition-gathering organization called “People United For Medical Marijuana” — or PUFMM for short. Florida has pushed for the legalization of medical marijuana before, but organizers have never been able to accomplish the feat of collecting the thousands of necessary signatures to make the ballot. It will be a different story in 2014 thanks to the Orlando attorney, who’s amendment provides that a physician will be allowed to prescribe cannabis to patients with qualifying conditions. Analysts …
Washington D.C. Decriminalization Legislation Introduced
Washington D.C. Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6) introduced legislation on Wednesday morning that would decriminalize possession of small amounts of cannabis. Under current D.C. law, minor possession of cannabis is a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine for first-time offenders. The District already has a medical marijuana bill, but it hasn’t been fully implemented. “The District’s current policy of arresting and prosecuting thousands of adults for marijuana possession each year is doing far more harm than good,” said Morgan Fox, communications manager for the Washington-based Marijuana …

Former Mexican President Calls For Legalization
On Monday, former Mexican president Vicente Fox met with marijuana advocates in San Francisco, CA, to join them in urging the United States and his own country to decriminalize the sale and recreational use of cannabis. According to the SF Examiner, the former Mexican president is for the legalization of all drugs, not just cannabis. “I am all for legalizing drugs, in the same way Portugal did,” said Fox, referring to Portugal’s decriminalization of all drugs in 2001. “The cost of the war is becoming unbearable — too high for Mexico, for Latin America …
BBQ To Be Held Today By Kansas Pro-Pot Group
A pro-pot group by the name of “Fire It Up Kansas” is hosting a cookout this afternoon at Sedgwick County Park in Wichita, Kansas. However, this BBQ is going to smell a little better than most. The group plans to light up cannabis legally this afternoon because they want state lawmakers to decriminalize cannabis. While most pro-pot groups are pushing for medical marijuana legalization, “Fire It Up Kansas” believes that is not enough. “I’m tired of seeing people destroyed, seeing children grow up without parents, tired of being looked at as idiots,” Diana Golden, one of the organizers, told …
Oregon Senate Approves MMJ Dispensary Bill
The Oregon senate passed a bill Wednesday in a bipartisan 18-12 vote that will require the Oregon Health Authority to establish a registration system of medical marijuana dispensaries. House Bill 3460, if signed by the governor, will come into effect on March 1. The bill would allow patients with one of 33 specified illnesses to buy cultivated cannabis as well as immature cannabis plants from authorized medical marijuana dispensaries. Under present law, the state’s 55,000 registered cardholders are permitted to grow their own cannabis, but there is no where to legally purchase the medicine. Sen. Floyd Prozanski …
City Of Berkeley Fights Back Against Feds
The city of Berkeley, California, filed a federal court claim to block a federal forfeiture action against its largest and eldest dispensary Wednesday. Last year, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of California, Melinda Haag, attempted to seize the Oakland and San Jose properties of Harborside Health Center. Haag targeted the dispensary’s landlord for asset forfeiture, an overworked bullying tactic used by the feds in their war on legal, state-sanctioned medical marijuana dispensaries. This May, her office filed a similar action against a property leased by Berkeley Patients Group. The complaint stated that the dispensary was breaking …
